Persuasive Speech. Topic: Please, Let us make the country Safer.

Thesis Statement: We should support gun control laws because the fact that guns are weapons of violence and many innocent American lives are taken away every single day. How many of you think guns are necessary? Are you indifferent every time you hear about the innocent people lives taken away as consequence of gun violence? What would be your stance about gun control law if your loved ones were victims of firearms crimes? Magazines and newspapers usually transmit us the idea of how beautiful and powerful guns are, but not how dangerous and alarming they may become because of its misuse. Today, I want to ask you guys to support right gun control laws because the fact that guns are weapons of violence and many innocent American lives are taken away every single day. A. Having guns around the house increases the chance of gun-related issue. 1. People with guns who have unstable feelings may commit suicide. a. According to a report from The Boston Globe, with high levels of gun ownership increase suicide rates almost twice as much as those with lower ownership levels. b. People who committed suicide were found to be seventeen times more likely to have gun at home than not. 2. Individuals may use guns erroneously or deliberately at home and put other inhabitant in danger. a. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, guns and homicides go together like Nicholas Cage and terrible movies. b. Also, according to The Democratic Hub report, the medalist Oscar Pistorius reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in his home early Thursday (Valentine’s Day) in the morning after mistaking her for an intruder. c. According to abc News, on January 21, 2013 a Lieutenant ,Hans Walters, with more than twenty years on the force shot his wife, (a retired officer), named Kathryn and their five years old son (each one on the head) and then commit suicide. B. Guns pose a high risk for American Children and teens. 1. Thousands of children die by gunfire each year. a. The Children’s Defense Fund claims that 7 children and teens from 0-19 years old die every day due to gun fire. b. According to the (FBI) Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Uniform Crime Report shows that murders committed by people under the age of eighteen who were arrested jumped from 1193 in 1985 to 2982 in 1994. The report shows a substantial increase in the number of killings by people who are under age of eighteen. c. A study led by Matthew Miller found that in states where more guns are available, children are more likely to be victims of firearm-related deaths 2. American children and teens of ages between 0-19 years old are 17 times more likely to die from a gun than in 25 other developing countries combined. a. According to Children’s Defense Fund, in 2010, children and teen gun related death rates in the U. S. were over 4 times higher than in Canada which has the second highest rates, 7 times higher than in Israel, and nearly 65 times higher than in the United Kingdom. b. According to NEA Health Information Network, in one year, firearms killed no children in Japan, 19 in Great Britain, 57 in Germany, 109 in France, 153 in Canada, and 5285 in the United States. c. U.S. Children and teens were 32 times more likely to die from gun homicide and 10 times more likely to die from a gun suicide or accident than in other high income nations. C. Banning the use of firearms will saves lives. 1. The conservative Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, launched an aggressive clamp-down on gun ownership. a. There was a 59 % drop in Australian gun related homicides while non-firearm related homicides stayed level during the first decades. b. Additionally, mass shooting went all the way from 11 to zero in a decade (1986-96) Conclusion Owning a gun is not necessary for living in peace but more susceptible to danger. Your life and your loved ones could be taken accidentally or deliberately due to a rash action. The lives of children and innocent people would be safer without guns in our home. Bullets cannot be taken back, and the profit of the guns businesses cannot buy the lives that have been taken by firearms. Therefore, I encourage you to support more efficient gun control laws and save many innocent lives.
